Parents charged after infant rescued from car at Costco

Parents of an infant have been charged after officers rescued a baby trapped in a hot car for around 45 minutes at a Costco parking lot in Markham, York Regional Police said.

Around 8:15 p.m. on Tuesday, officers arrived to the scene near Hwy. 7 and Woodbine Ave., after receiving a call for a baby trapped in a car.

When they arrived on scene, they determined that the baby needed to be rescued, and smashed a window of a car to retrieve the infant, police said.

The baby was then placed in the police cruiser to cool down and assessed by York Paramedics until the parents returned from shopping.

The parents were charged on scene under the Child and Family Services Act for leaving a child unattended.
