2 impaired teens arrested, charged with stealing car in Sheshatshiu

Two teenage girls were arrested Thursday morning in Sheshatshiu after a stolen SUV was recovered.

Both girls were found to be intoxicated at the time of the arrest, police said, with the 14-year-old driver blowing almost double the legal limit in a breathalyzer.

The passenger is 16.

Around 5:50 a.m. the Sheshatshiu RCMP received a complaint of a stolen SUV from a home on Tsheniss Drive. The owner of the vehicle then advised police that the SUV had been found on a beach in front of Mistashini Crescent.

Once on the scene, RCMP saw a female youth running from the area.

With help from the community, the girls were located and arrested and charged for theft of a motor vehicle.

They are currently in custody and will be released for a provincial court at a later date.
