Health Canada warns of testosterone products found in Richmond, Surrey

Health Canada has issued a warning after unauthorized testosterone products were seized from two Next Level Fitness locations in Richmond and Surrey, B.C.

The two products are:

  • TRT, a testosterone booster manufactured by Ballistic Laboratories.
  • Freak'n Test, a testosterone enhancer manufactured by Freak N' Muscle.

Labels on both products claim to contain a prescription drug, L-Dopa, that may pose serious health risks and interact with other drugs.

L-Dopa, also known as levodopa, is primarily used to treat Parkinson's disease. According to Health Canada, serious side effects of the drug include:

  • Uncontrollable movements of the face, arms, hands, or legs.
  • Severe or persistent nausea or vomiting.
  • An irregular heartbeat or fluttering in the chest.
  • Feeling lightheaded when standing quickly.
  • Unusual changes in mood or behaviour.

Health Canada is urging consumers who have used either product — particularly people with heart or liver conditions, high blood pressure, or diabetes — to consult a doctor.

Pregnant and breastfeeding women, or women planning to become pregnant should also avoid using the products.

Health Canada also encouraged customers to read product labels to verify the government agency has authorized them for sale.
